Chicago police return stolen car, custom-made wedding dress in time for Wednesday ceremony

Chicago police say a car burglar disrupted an Iowa couple's wedding products on Thursday when the couple's car — with trumpet mermaid wedding dresses in the shoe — was stolen from the Lakeview neighborhood. Gulf side police officers saved clothing early Wednesday morning in Gulf Garfield Park after they stopped the auto because it appeared suspicious, police said. Police said the couple, in town for their wedding Wednesday morning, parked the auto about 8 p. mirielle.

Thursday night. By Friday morning, it was gone. When the silver 2008 Kia Optima passed Harrison Location Officers John McKenna and Paul Sandoval in traffic early today on Monroe Street, they noticed it because the back window was broken out and it was "a little cold out, " Harrison Location Police Lt. John Andrews said.

The broken window tipped them off because that can sometimes indicate a car has been burglarized or stolen. The officers quickly ran the driver's license plates and when they found it was a "fresh steal" they pulled it over near Kostner Avenue and began examining the auto and questioning its driver, 38-year-old Milus Hendricks, the lieutenant said. "They didn't know your wedding reception dress was in the auto until they graded the auto and they noticed suitcase and the dress in the shoe, " Andrews said. When Sandoval and McKenna called the car's owner, the 43-year-old groom themselves from Urbandale, Iowa, asked if the dress was still in the car. "He (groom themselves) said it's my fiancée's custom-made wedding dress — we're supposed to get married in the morning, " Andrews said.

The groom themselves, who was reached by telephone this afternoon but did not want to be identified, said his phone rang about 1: 30 a. mirielle. "Well, it was very surprising, " he said. "They said they’d made an arrest and saved the auto and that they wanted me to come down and get the car and file charges, but after talking to them, they decided just to bring the auto to us and not let us go through the hassle. ’’ "I had never had anything like this happen before, " he said of the robber and was in shock that they actually got the items back.

His fiancée overheard the early morning phone call and said she was "very happy" to learn that the white, full-length strapless dress, which "boots out at the bottom"’ and has pearls "along the top"’ -- and its veil -- were found. "She was listening in. She was happy. We were both happy that they saved clothing, " he said. His wife was not originally preparing to wearing clothing today and instead was going to use it for photos when they got back home to Iowa. But she changed her mind and dressed in it after all when a justice of the peace married them during a ceremony at at City Area this morning.
